Low-Pain Digital Dental Injections

Suntikan Bius Gigi Digital

A slower, steadier way to give anaesthetic

For many people, the injection is the part of dental treatment they worry about most. At Paddington Dental Surgery in Sungai Petani, we use digital electronic low-pain injectors to give local anaesthetic. They deliver the anaesthetic slowly and steadily, which is designed to reduce the discomfort of the injection.

Why can an injection feel uncomfortable?

Much of the discomfort of a dental injection comes from the anaesthetic fluid going in too quickly, which pushes on the tissue, rather than from the needle itself. With a traditional hand-held syringe, the speed and pressure depend on the dentist's hand, and the gum tissue can be tight, especially near the front teeth and in the roof of the mouth.

How digital electronic low-pain injectors work

Controlled flow. The injector electronically controls how fast the anaesthetic is delivered, starting very slowly and keeping the flow steady.
Gentle, steady delivery. Because the flow is controlled, the fluid is not pushed into the tissue too quickly.
Same anaesthetic. The numbing medicine is the standard local anaesthetic used in dentistry. Only the way it is delivered is different.
Before the injection, the dentist may also apply a numbing gel to the gum.

What happens during the injection

The dentist dries the gum and may apply a numbing gel first.
The thin needle is placed gently while the injector starts with a very slow flow of anaesthetic.
The flow continues at a steady rate while the area becomes numb, usually over a short time.
The dentist checks that the tooth is numb before starting treatment, and can give more anaesthetic if needed.

When we use it

Digital electronic low-pain injectors can be used for most treatments that need numbing, including:
Fillings
Root canal treatment
Tooth extractions and wisdom tooth surgery
Dental implant surgery
Crown and bridge preparation
Deep cleaning, when needed
If injections worry you, mention it when you book so the dentist can plan your visit with you.

Who may find it helpful?

Patients who feel anxious about needles or have had an uncomfortable injection before
Children and teenagers, where the dentist feels it is suitable and with a parent's consent
Anyone having a longer procedure that needs more than one injection

What it can and cannot do

We want to be honest with you. Digital electronic low-pain injectors are designed to make the injection more comfortable, but they do not take away every sensation. You may still feel a small pinch or some pressure, and how it feels varies from person to person. Once you are numb, most patients feel pressure or vibration during treatment. If you feel anything sharp, raise your hand and the dentist will stop and check.

Tips for a more comfortable visit

Tell us if you are nervous. We can explain each step before we do it and agree on a "stop" signal with you.
Eat a light meal before your appointment, unless told otherwise.
After treatment, be careful not to bite your numb lip, cheek or tongue, and wait until the numbness wears off before eating hot food. This is especially important for children.
